Founded in Osaka in 1991, Evisu is named after the Japanese God of Money. Initial production was just 14 pairs of jeans a day, each lovingly hand-painted with the Seagull logo. By the early 90s, vintage-inspired jeans had exploded. Evisu moved production to Italy but retains its Japanese denim and the cult product is now sold worldwide. The brand was created by Hidehiko Yamane who was a tailor by trade but always had a passion for vintage denim jeans. It took Yamane time to locate the equipment needed for the production process and initially jeans were produced as a passionate rather than a commercial venture. Soon the Evisu Vintage Jeans grew a cut following in Japan which spurned the vintage jeans movement of the last decade that has spread worldwide. Alongside their denim collections they also produce a range of Evisu Mens Clothing which includes T-Shirts, and Polo Shirts. |
